A roof problem rarely comes at a convenient time. Whether it's a leak that appeared overnight, slates blown off in a storm, or a damp patch on the ceiling you've been putting off dealing with — when your roof fails in Cork's climate, every hour counts. Water gets in fast and causes damage that spreads far beyond the original entry point.
At Hallmark Roofing, we've been carrying out roof repairs across Cork city and county for over 15 years. We work on every type of roof found across Cork — slate roofs, tile roofs, flat roofs, and everything in between — and we carry out every type of repair, from a single slipped slate to full emergency storm damage work.
My name is Patrick O'Sullivan. When you call Hallmark Roofing, you deal with us directly. I oversee every job personally, from the initial inspection through to the finished repair. There are no subcontractors, no call centres, and no passing the job on to someone you've never spoken to.
We'll come out to you free of charge, find the exact source of the problem, explain it to you in plain English, and give you a written quote before anything starts. What we quote is what you pay.

Most roof problems are visible before they cause serious damage inside the house — if you know what to look for. These are the most common warning signs we encounter on Cork properties:
Water stains on ceilings or walls. Brown or yellow staining on an upstairs ceiling or on a wall adjacent to the roof line is one of the clearest indicators of water ingress. Don't wait for it to get worse — by the time staining appears inside, water has usually been getting in for some time.
Missing, cracked, or slipped slates and tiles. Even a single missing slate creates an unprotected entry point for water. Multiple missing or visibly displaced slates indicate a roof that needs prompt attention — particularly before the next bout of heavy rain or high winds.
Visible daylight in the attic. If you go into your attic and can see pinpricks of light through the roof surface, there are gaps in the slates or tiles that are allowing water in. This is one of the most reliable ways to self-diagnose a roof problem.
Moss and lichen growth. Heavy moss covering — particularly on north-facing slopes — retains moisture against the roof surface, accelerates deterioration of slates and tiles, and blocks water drainage. It's a sign the roof needs professional attention even if no leak is immediately apparent.
Sagging or uneven roof surface. A roofline that dips, sags, or appears uneven from the ground can indicate failing timbers or structural movement beneath the slates or tiles. This needs urgent professional assessment.
Deteriorating ridge tiles. Ridge tiles at the very top of the roof are held in place by mortar that erodes over time. Loose or missing ridge tiles are a common cause of leaks and, in high winds, can become a safety hazard if they fall.
Failed or lifting flashings. Lead flashings at chimney bases, in valleys, and around skylights are a frequent failure point on Cork roofs. Lifting, cracked, or pulled-away flashings allow water to enter at the most vulnerable junctions of the roof.
Damp or mould in the attic. Condensation and mould growth on attic timbers or sarking felt can indicate either water ingress through the roof or inadequate ventilation — both of which need professional assessment.
Real people. Real workmanship. Real results.

This is the question we get asked most often, and the honest answer depends on three things — the age of the roof, the extent of the damage, and the type of roofing material.
As a general rule, if your roof is less than 20 years old and the problems are localised — a section of slipped slates, failed flashing, a small number of cracked tiles — repair is almost always the right answer. A targeted repair carried out properly will restore full watertightness and last for years.
If the roof is older and you're experiencing problems in multiple areas, if the sarking felt has failed across the whole roof, or if slates are slipping consistently because the fixing nails are corroding throughout — a full replacement may be better value in the long run than repeated repairs. We'll always give you our honest assessment.
Replacing a roof when repairs would do the job is a waste of money. Repeatedly repairing a roof that genuinely needs replacing is also a waste of money. We'll tell you which situation you're in after inspecting the roof — and we don't have a financial incentive either way.
We know price is the first thing on your mind, but every roof is different. A simple fix, like replacing a few slipped slates or sealing a small leak, is very affordable. However, if there is underlying structural damage or if scaffolding is required for safety, the cost will naturally be higher. We don’t guess over the phone—we come out, assess the damage for free, and give you a fixed, written quote so you know exactly where you stand before we start.
No, we do not. We offer free, no-obligation quotes for all customers in Cork City and County. We believe you shouldn’t have to pay just to find out what is wrong with your roof. We will visit your property, inspect the issue, and give you our honest advice on the best way to fix it.
Yes. We understand that a live leak is stressful and can cause serious internal damage. We prioritise emergency calls for storm damage or sudden leaks. If we cannot complete the full repair immediately (for example, if the weather is too dangerous), we will install temporary waterproofing to stop the water ingress and return to finish the job as soon as it is safe.
Absolutely. If your roof has been damaged by a storm, we can provide a detailed, itemised quotation and damage report that you can submit to your insurance company. We have years of experience dealing with insurance repairs and can help make the process as smooth as possible for you.
Yes, all our work is fully guaranteed. We stand by the quality of our craftsmanship. If a problem arises with our repair work within the guarantee period, we will come back and fix it free of charge. You also have the peace of mind knowing we are fully insured.

Cork receives some of the highest rainfall in Ireland. The Atlantic weather systems that roll in from the southwest bring persistent heavy rain, high winds, and significant temperature swings that put Cork roofs under more stress than those in drier parts of the country.
The freeze-thaw cycle that Cork experiences through winter is particularly damaging — water gets into hairline cracks in mortar and slates, freezes overnight, expands, and widens the crack. Repeat this dozens of times through a winter and a minor defect becomes a major problem.
Coastal properties — from Cobh and Crosshaven in the east to Kinsale, Clonakilty, and beyond along the West Cork coast — also experience salt air corrosion that accelerates the deterioration of lead flashings, iron fixing nails, and mortar joints significantly faster than inland properties.
Cork's housing stock is also older than the national average, with a large proportion of properties built before 1980 using materials that are now approaching or past their designed service life. Identifying and addressing deterioration before it becomes failure is always cheaper than emergency repairs.
We understand Cork's specific roofing challenges because we work on Cork roofs every day. That local knowledge makes a genuine difference to the quality and longevity of every repair we carry out.

If your roof is leaking, showing signs of wear, or simply hasn't been inspected in a while, we're happy to come out, take a look, and give you a straight answer on what it needs. No call-out fee, no obligation, and no hard sell.
